The Free Stuff That I Got This Week!

Ok here is a picture of all the free stuff that I got this week. I really did hit the jackpot this week with freebies. As you can see all the stuff is laid out on a pink princess toddler bed. Yes that was also free. I found it on a website called freecycle. If you have never heard of it consider it like an online yard sale but everything is free. What you do is sign up for your area and then you can go on the your areas freecycle cite and it will have things posted that are available, or if you are looking for something you can post that too and if someone has it and wants to get rid of it they will contact you. This toddler bed looks like it is in perfect condition and retails for around $60 but I got it for free! The jeans, dental floss, ibuprofen, panty liners, finish dishwasher detergent, toothpaste and curel hand lotion all came from target using coupons.  The deodorant and collage picture came from Walgreens, I had a coupon for the deodorant and the picture was from the Walgreens 7 days of photo deals. I got the Maalox from walmart using a coupon.  The SPRY tooth and gum treatment came from the moms group I sample things for and give them reviews on the products. And finally in the mail I received a free packet of soup and a coupon for a free coffee mate creamer. This is just an example of why you need to start clipping and saving coupons from the Sunday paper! Make sure to get your coupons tomorrow!!!

Thank You!

Happy Friday Everyone, I first wanted to thank all of you that voted to either keep the blog or trash it. As I am sure you have already seen the majority of you wanted me to keep the blog so I will. I hope all of you are finding deals or even freebies. I am sure many of you are asking yourself why do you need all the free samples of things that I post.  Well, you really don't NEED them, but they are nice to have on hand. I have a medium sized basket in my bathroom closet with all the little free samples of deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo etc. These are nice to have on hand in case you have guests come over and they forgot something. Or if you are going on a trip you can throw these into your bag. If you have school aged children the deodorant is nice for them to have in their gym bag. They are also nice to have in emergencies as I had the other week. I ran out of deodorant and forgot to pick some up at the store. I went to use it and it was gone so I went to my stock pile and had about 6 different kinds that I could choose from. If it were me I would continue or start getting the free samples, you never know when they will come in handy. Stay tuned tomorrow for a picture of all the free stuff I got this past week. I really hit the jackpot!

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

Hi, I hope some of you woke up to something other than snow this morning. Who ever said we could trust a groundhog to give us the weather forecast? If any of you were wondering my husbands hand is not broken, just badly bruised and still a bit swollen. If you are a parent you know that it is never a dull moment in your house. Yesterday evening as I was making dinner, the girls were in the living room playing. I looked out to see what they were doing and Izzy was smearing a glue stick on her lips thinking it was chapstick. I know many of you are thinking why was a glue stick left out? Brynn had been doing a craft when Izzy was napping and all the stuff was still out on the little craft table and I forgot about it. Izzy was a sticky mess but the good news is luckily it wasn't super glue!

You are probably wondering why I have a picture of coupons.  How many of you think you are too good to use coupons or they are to much of a hassle to use? I used to be that person until I realized all the FREE and very cheap things you can get when you use coupons. To be honest coupons have become a bit of an obsession recently.  I am just now really getting into using them and understanding how to get a bigger bang for my buck.  I will be sharing with you over the next couple of days the coupon lingo, where to shop and how to use coupons. If you have any tips on coupons please feel free to share!

When you are first starting to coupon it might seem overwhelming and you may not understand what the words mean that I will be referring to.  Here are a list of what the abbreviations mean:

RP :: Red Plum coupon insert found in the Sunday newspaper
SS :: Smart Source coupon insert found in the Sunday newspaper
P&G :: Proctor & Gamble coupon insert found in the Sunday newspaper

I also recommend getting the Sunday paper. The Crazy couponers suggest getting multiple copies of the Sunday paper for the coupons but if you are just starting as I am I would suggest 1 copy. Also keep these coupons even until they expire because you never know when a great deal will come along and you will need to use them. A great book to read is: Pick Another Checkout  Lane Honey by Joanie Demer and Heather Wheeler. This book explains how to become an expert couponer.
If you want to get a copy of the book you can go here to get it for $13.59 through Amazon. This qualifies for free shipping if you have amazon prime. I will also be posting coupon deal scenarios that will get you free or cheap things that she comes up with. I hope that I didn't confuse you too much. Later today I will be posting some deals that will get you free items from using coupons. Don't forget the target deals that I had posted yesterday.

The Black Cloud Strikes Again!

Remember how I told you before that it seems like my family always has this black cloud over our heads? Well it strikes again. This cloud is mostly over my poor husband who can't seem to catch a break from it. If you looked in the dictionary under unlucky you would see his face! The poor man always has something happening to him. For example about 3 months ago he was at the bank on his lunch break simply depositing a check, well wouldn't you know the bank was robbed as he was in there. The robber was 2 tellers down from him demanding money with a gun tucked under his jacket. The robber left thankfully no one was hurt, but the bank was on lock down for awhile with  my husband inside. Just last evening he was taking papers to a client for work and on his way back to work got a flat tire, no biggie right, well not for him. The lug nut was on very tight (my husband is a pretty strong guy so this thing must have really been tight) as he was trying everything to get the nut off the wrench fell and went into the sewer drain really leaving him stranded. He now has to wait for his dad to come with another tool to help him get it off. It took 3 guys to get the thing off and he made it home safe but......he thinks he broke his hand trying to get the tire off. He hates going to the Dr.'s so we will see how it is tomorrow. Hopefully he didn't break it, but I will keep you posted. I hope everyone is having a nice relaxing weekend.

What A Day!

What a day it has been. It all started this morning when we woke up and our internet was down. That wasn't a big problem because I really needed to do some cleaning and the computer would have been a distraction anyway. I got the girls and I some breakfast, got dressed and headed out the door to run some errands before it got to late in the day. Our first stop was the library. I wanted to look at something on the computer and I told the girls we could go play and check out some books. We head to the computers. I am equipped with lollipops (i know it was only a little after 10 and they have lollipops, but you gotta do what works!) to give them so that they will sit and be quite as I look on the computer. I sit them down get out the lollipops and I sit down to browse. Izzy (my youngest) starts screaming shoes, she wants her shoes off. She will not stop crying until I take them off, so I did. Then she wanted her jacket off. Now that she was settled I frantically start to look at what I was there to look at before something else happens. Just then a guy down the row of computers starts to cough. Then Izzy coughs. Ok hahaha funny. Then the guy goes into a coughing fit, and so does Izzy. As I am sitting there I can feel my face getting hot because I am so embarrassed. The guy across from me is cracking up laughing but I don't dare make eye contact with him. I hurry up and finish and we go to the kid section check out books and leave.

We are now heading to the dollar store because the girls each received a dollar in their goodie bag from Valentine's Day that  their PapPap gave them. I told them that they could go there and pick something out. We get there and Brynn picks out a Little Mermaid Puzzle, and Izzy picks out a Mickey Mouse figure. We get our stuff and each girl has a bag. We head out to the car. As we get across the street into the parking lot I hear Izzy yelling bag, bag. It was very windy here today and her bag blew away. It goes under a car, not where I can easily get it but directly under the middle of the car. I am now thinking how in the world am I going to get this bag. Just then and I am not kidding when I say just then this guy appears with a long metal pole. It was very creepy and strange as to where he came from! I am thinking how did I miss this guy walking with a huge pole and why does he have it?  He lays down on the road and with his very long pole retrieves the bag. I say thank you and we are on our way. This time I am holding both of the girls' bags. I wish I would have looked back to see where the man went did he disappear into the cornfields??? For whatever reason he was there I am thankful that he came to my rescue.

Finally we are off to Costco. Now don't judge me on this because I am sure that all of you at one time or another have gone to either Sam's Club or Costco to get samples. Well this was our lunch today. Yes I took the girls to Costco to eat and not to eat at their eatery, but to get FREE samples(this wasn't the only reason we went I needed some groceries as well). We filled up on pizza, potato pot sticks, cranberry juice, crackers and cheese, spinach dip, breaded chicken, soup, and chocolate cake.  I think we did pretty well I know I was full and the girls were not complaining.

We make it home without anything else happening.  I am very thankful for the weather these past couple of days.  I was able to take Brynn outside to play this afternoon while Izzy was taking her nap. Brynn loved it and I hope that the weather stays nice for awhile.  I hope all of you have a great weekend.

Food Friday: Mac 'N Cheese with Bacon

Ingredients

  • Kosher salt
  • 1 pound elbow macaroni
  • 4 cups milk
  • 2 or 3 sprigs thyme
  • 4 cloves garlic, smashed and divided
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 5 1/2 cups shredded sharp white Cheddar (or any cheese you would like)
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped flat-leaf parsley
  • 4 slices bacon, cut crosswise into thin strips
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, smashed
  • Leaves from 1/4 bunch fresh thyme

Directions

Bring a pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Add the macaroni and cook for 8 to 9 minutes, until al dente. Drain. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. In a small saucepan heat the milk with the thyme sprigs and 2 garlic cloves. Melt the butter in a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute, stirring constantly, to keep lumps from forming. Strain the solids out of the milk and whisk it into the butter and flour mixture. Continue to whisk vigorously, and cook until the mixture is nice and smooth. Stir in the 4 cups of the cheese and continue to cook and stir to melt the cheese. Season with salt and pepper. Add the cooked macaroni and the parsley and fold that all in to coat the macaroni with the cheese mixture. Scrape into a 3-quart baking dish and sprinkle with the remaining 1 1/2 cups cheese. Bake for 30 minutes, or until hot and bubbly. While that bakes, heat a saute pan. Add the bacon, render the fat and cook until crispy. Add onion, garlic and thyme leaves and cook for about 5 minutes to soften the onion. Season with salt and pepper. To serve, scatter the bacon mixture over the mac and cheese. Use a big spoon to scoop out servings, making sure you get some of the smoking bacon mixture on each spoonful.
Click here to print a coupon to get $5 off your table’s purchase of $15 or more.  Redeem through February 21st.

Grocery Shopping

Ok, how many of you like to go grocery shopping?  I have to admit I love it. That is the one time a month that I KNOW that I will be by myself. Who ever thought that before you had kids that you would be excited to go grocery shopping? I did my monthly grocery shopping trip tonight and had a nice relaxing time.  It is so nice to not have to rush, walk up and down the aisles without having children trying to jump out of the cart, asking for everything they see, or fighting because someone is touching someone else. I walked into the store tonight took out my list, coupons and calculator (yes I take a calculator, I have to stay on budget!) took a nice relaxing deep breath and started my shopping experience. I wasn't running to get out of the store before one of my children had a meltdown instead I was walking at a nice pace and really looking at things for a change. I heard a few kids screaming but they were not mine so I didn't care. For the hour and a half that I was shopping I didn't hear my name once it was very nice. After my shopping trip and 2 carts later I was still smiling when I walked out of the store. You would have thought that I just walked out of a nice day at the spa.  I guess what I am trying to write and to get across is no matter where you find your "relaxing" time make sure you take that. We all deserve some time to ourselves even if it is at the grocery store!

I'm Back!

Hello Everyone. I am so sorry that I have been MIA for awhile but my computer was down and we finally got it back thanks to one of my wonderful brother in laws. I will be updating my deals tonight. I first wanted to share a picture of all the FREE stuff that I received this past week. Well sorry it wasn't free it was .17 cents (I had to pay tax on my free bottle of shampoo!).

In the picture you have the free Melissa and Doug chalk/white board and letter and numbers that I got for signing up for USA Baby (there was a post on it last week). The tote bag and 4 boxes of organic tea was from a company that I belong to that allows me to sample things then I write reviews for what I had sampled. I had a coupon for a bottle of herbal essence shampoo or conditioner, I received the tide to go pen from facebook freebies. You can hardly see it but there is a bottle of antibacterial soap from Giant Eagle that was free from a register coupon. I signed up to get the travel sized bottle of deoderant. I was sent a coupon for therma care heat wrap. I was also sent a coupon for a free Earth's Best product and finally I scored travel sized body lotion, shower gel and body mist from Bath and Body works for being a part of their club (details on that will follow, you get free stuff every month!) THIS WAS ALL IN ONE WEEK!  If you follow the blog you too will be able to get this much free stuff!

I hope you are staying warm!

Ocean View Wallpaper
How many of you wish you were somewhere like this right now? I do. I have had enough of this freezing cold weather.  If you are not experiencing the bitter cold where you live could you please send some of your warmth to Western PA?  It has been so cold that I haven't even felt like going anywhere the past couple of days. Today the girls and I finally ventured out, but it was so I could get FREE stuff.  I scored a bunch of freebies today that I will tell you about in a later post.  This week has been great for FREEBIES for me as I will post a picture, hopefully by Monday of all the free stuff that I got. I hope that I am not harming my children when it comes to cheap/free things! Today as we were walking through the mall at the food court they had people standing there with FREE samples of food (you know what I a talking about).  Well as we were walking past both Brynn and Isabella hold out their hand for a free sample. I felt a bit embarassed as it looked like I never feed my children. Also today at the mall we walked into the Disney store to browse around.  Brynn was asking me if she could get something, I told her no it was too expensive and she said could we get a coupon and get it someday? I laughed and said maybe someday. I am proud in a way that they are picking up on being frugal shoppers and I hope that as they get older they continue to look for deals and shop wisely.

This eveing Brynn and I were filling out her Valentines that she picked out (of course they were Scooby Doo, she is in love with him) for our moms group Valentines Party Tomorrow. As she is searching for just the right one for the name that I had given to her it brought back memories of elementary school when I filled out my valentines.  You would look for the ones that said I like your or you are special for that boy/girl you had a crush on. Then on the day of the party you would look through your valentines that were in your box and see if anyone had a crush on you and hopefully if you did it was the same person you were crushing on! I wonder if that still goes on today? Anyway, just a trip down memory lane there for a bit. Stay tuned tomorrow for Food Friday as I will have some yummy recipes to share.
